One of the iconic, historic and oldest dzong in Bhutan is Drukgyel and has the history of shaping the nation. The dzong was built in 1649 by Tenzin Drugdra to commemorate victory over Tibetan invasion and was handed over to Zhabdrung. By 1950 the dzong was completely destroyed by fire, today it stand only ruins. The base camp hotel is ideal location for enjoying the historic Drukgyel dzong view.
